Accountant I

Location: Orange County, New York

Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Accountant to support sales and property tax compliance activities within a structured corporate environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate (RCG) or early-career accounting professional to develop a strong foundation in corporate tax, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting.

Candidates with internship experience, entry-level accounting exposure, or prior tax preparation experience (including seasonal tax preparation roles) are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns in accordance with regulatory requirements

  • Prepare and support the full property tax compliance process, including data collection and filings

  • Reconcile tax assessments to invoices and assist with accurate invoice processing

  • Prepare and support monthly and quarterly tax accruals, including related journal entries

  • Prepare monthly 911 tax returns and ensure timely submission

  • Support sales and property tax audits by gathering documentation and responding to data requests

  • Maintain organized and complete tax records to ensure audit readiness

  • Assist the tax department with special projects and ad hoc initiatives

  • Support month-end close activities and adhere to established deadlines

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 0-2 years of accounting experience (internships included)

  • Foundational understanding of accounting principles

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Ability to meet deadlines in a structured, deadline-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to tax-related work, including sales tax, property tax, or tax preparation

  • Experience with general ledger accounts, journal entries, and reconciliations

  • Familiarity with month-end close processes

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite position based in a corporate headquarters environment. The accounting and tax team consists of approximately 10 professionals, representing a diverse range of experience levels, backgrounds, and tenure.

The role requires a high level of professionalism, as executives and senior leadership are frequently onsite. Business attire and professional conduct are expected at all times.

Time off is not permitted during month-end close, which occurs from the 22nd through the end of each month, due to critical reporting deadlines.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
